Position Summary:

The Applications Chemist combines real pharmaceutical laboratory experience with the desire to enhance customers’ understanding and use of Proveris systems to develop and characterize aerosol and spray delivered drug products.  The Applications Chemist is knowledgeable and fully conversant in dose content uniformity testing, cascade impaction testing (NGI/ACI), and particle sizing techniques, preferably with experience in metered-dose inhalers, pMDI, nasal and dry powder(DPI)  for inhalation products. The Applications Chemist is responsible for all Proveris’ laboratory activities, including performing contract testing services. The Applications Chemist adds a critical customer’s perspective to our commercial, technical support, and product realization teams and services focused on specific market needs. The Applications Chemist balances laboratory activities in the corporate offices with customer support activities, technical presentations, and field visits to prospective customers.  The Applications Chemist is a self-starter and lifelong learner able to assist Proveris’ global customers with application and laboratory needs and to add customer insights to Proveris’ engineering expertise and market knowledge to help define future technologies and professional services for a worldwide customer base developing and producing orally inhaled and nasal drug products (OINDPs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Authors technical documents, such as protocols, test methods, test reports, certificates of analysis, and operating procedures
  • Performs a variety of complex sample preparation and analysis procedures to quantitatively measure pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or biological matrices
  • Define and execute laboratory experiments for product demonstrations, method development activities, and other consulting services.
  • Review technical documents for accuracy, thoroughness and regulatory compliance
  • Maintain high quality cGLP laboratory documentation in accordance with applicable regulatory guidance and Site SOPs
  • Provide technical applications support to our global customers as part of a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations on Proveris technology.
  • Assist in the support and release of new products into the field.
  • Actively participate with the Product Management Department in product design reviews and pre-release product testing as necessary.
  • May publish or present externally

Competencies:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of multiple applicable techniques such as: HPLC, MS, UV-Vis, FT-IR, Inhalation Testing and Biopharmaceutical Testing.
  • Proven ability to interpret data by performing trend analysis
  • Proven ability in technical writing skills
  • Ability to independently develop and validate analytical methods
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • High aptitude to learn new systems/software and retain technical information.
  • Results focus, with excellent time and project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written expression and solid listening skills.
  • Familiarity with Design of Experiments concepts and statistically oriented multi-variable optimization using JMP, Minitab, or similar software.
  • Ability to operate effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Working proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, project management (e.g., SharePoint), and Mind Mapping software packages.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in chemistry, or related applied science, or equivalent practical laboratory experience required.
  • HPLC Method development and validation
  • At least two (2) years industry experience in spray and aerosol characterization techniques is highly desirable.
  • Direct laboratory experience in cGMP/GLP.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the spray and aerosol drug delivery area.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Travel Requirements:

Valid driver’s license needed.  Overnight domestic and international travel will average 25-30%, varying in response to shifting business needs.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:

Moderate noise level associated with open office work environment and site conditions.  Global travel may present the employee with noise, temperature, and/or humidity that deviates significantly from the level of each one associated with a typical open office environment and site.
